Makuhari Messe serves as the monumental backdrop for the Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS), Japan’s premier custom car exhibition. While the facility itself is a massive convention complex in Chiba, every January it undergoes a total transformation, becoming the world’s most intense gathering of automotive engineering, radical aesthetics, and aftermarket innovation.

TAS is fundamentally different from international motor shows; while OEM manufacturers are present, the heart and soul of the event are the tuning houses, parts manufacturers, and independent builders who treat the exhibition halls like a high-stakes runway.

Engineering Over Aesthetics: Unlike many "show-only" events, the vehicles displayed at TAS are almost universally functional.
