660cc vs. Godzilla: Chasing GT-Rs Up Hakone in the Rain

Updated: Oct 10
For this leg of the Drivers Lounge tour, I was behind the wheel of their Spoon-tuned Honda S660, trying to keep an R32 Skyline GT-R, an R35 GT-R and a GR Yaris in sight up the Hakone Turnpike, in heavy mountain mist and rain.
I Really Wished It Hadn't Rained
To be honest, navigating Japan's most iconic toll road in the wet was an intense, high-concentration challenge. The mist made for an amazing atmosphere, but climbing it in a kei car is a completely different story.
Wringing Out Every cc
The S660 is a brilliant, lightweight mid-engine platform, but with only 660cc of turbo power behind my head, keeping momentum through the elevation changes was a constant battle. Every time the GT-Rs ahead put down their power, I had to wring every ounce out of that little 3-cylinder just to keep them in sight.
Final Thoughts
It was hard work, but chasing Godzilla up Hakone in a Spoon S660 is a memory I won't forget.
Would you rather drive the S660 or one of the GT-Rs up Hakone in the rain? Let me know in the comments!
