Shenzhen 2026: R35s, Bugatti, and the Boring Avocado

If you think the JDM scene is limited to the islands of Japan, you haven't seen Shenzhen. I recently attended the Auto Ecosystem Cool Car Show, and the scale was staggering [00:54]. From high-end European hypercars to a surprisingly deep-rooted JDM tuner scene, Shenzhen is quickly becoming a major hub for automotive "ecosystems."

The "Boring Avocado" and the High-Fashion GTR

One of the most talked-about builds at the show was the Boring Avocado—a collaboration between the brand Boring Concept and influencer Hanavocado [36:30].

  • The Build: It’s a custom-wrapped R35 GT-R in a very unique "avocado" green that was anything but boring.

  • The Scene: Getting to see the car in person, with Hannah herself live at the booth, showed just how much the "lifestyle" and "itasha" elements are driving the scene in China right now [36:49].

Hypercars and High Stakes

While my heart is with the 90s icons, you can’t ignore the heavy hitters at a show of this scale.

  • Bugatti: I actually saw my first Bugatti in the flesh here [38:32]. Seeing it parked next to high-end tuner builds gives you a sense of the sheer wealth and passion pouring into the Shenzhen car scene.

  • Personal Planes: In a move that truly defined the "ecosystem" theme, there was even a self-piloted plane on display with a price tag of 1.28 million RMB—roughly the price of a mid-tier supercar [39:04].

The JDM Heart: Itashas and Custom Builds

Between the massive halls, I found the "Cool Car Showcase" [03:02], where the JDM spirit was in full force:

  • The Itasha Scene: The sheer number of Itasha builds—cars wrapped in anime-themed graphics—was impressive. I saw everything from an Itasha Beetle [19:26] to an Evangelion-themed Camaro [49:11].

  • The Rare Gems: I spotted a Mitsubishi FTO [40:28] and a Mazda 323 [06:28], cars I haven't seen in ages. There was also a beautiful Celica convertible that brought back memories of my own 1991 Celica GTS [09:19].

  • Performance Brands: Familiar names like Tein, Work Wheels, and HKS had a massive presence. I spent some time at the Work Wheels booth, finally getting an up-close look at the Meister S1 three-piece wheels I've been eyeing for my R32 build [26:53].

Final Thoughts

Walking for five hours across kilometers of exhibits left my legs killing me [49:42], but the inspiration was worth every step. Whether it’s the "Boring Concept" trucks hauling in legendary R34s or the student-driver themed apparel [25:44], the Shenzhen scene is bold, creative, and unapologetically cool.

The "Daikoku Legend" journey is global, and Shenzhen just added a very green, very fast chapter to the story.

Is the "Boring Avocado" too wild, or is it exactly what the GT-R scene needs? Let me know your take in the comments!
