The Sunday Morning Ritual: A Different Side of Daikoku PA

If you’ve only seen Daikoku Parking Area at night, you’re only seeing half the story. I finally made it out for a Sunday morning meet [01:07], and the vibe is legendary. It’s less about the flashing LEDs and neon, and more about the rare, the classic, and the meticulously maintained "daily drivers" of the Japanese car world.

The "Corners" of Daikoku

Sunday mornings seem to have an unspoken rule about where you park. As I walked the aisles, I realized the lot is almost organized by lineage:

The Mercedes Corner: A long row of identical hatchbacks and premium sedans that you simply don’t want to mess with [08:13].
The GTR Row: A serious collection of R32 Skyline GT-Rs, many looking as stock as the day they left the factory [26:48]. I even spotted a few with "battle-ready" details like a Jason mask in the window [28:02].
The Honda Corner: This was my personal favorite. From a pristine Prelude that would make my brother lose his mind [12:46] to a group of CRXs and S660s [13:21].

Meeting the Legends

One of the best parts of the morning was the people. I met a former Michigan resident now living in Japan, who has owned his stunning CRX for over 10 years [14:45]. Talking to him and his crew in the "Honda Corner" [15:20] reminded me why I’m exporting my own DC2 and R32 to Toronto—to preserve this culture back home where the salt and snow have unfortunately claimed so many of these icons.

I found myself increasingly obsessed with the Honda S660s and Beats.

Rare Sightings

Sunday morning is also when the true rarities come out to play:

The Subaru "Mystery": I spotted a classic Subaru from the late 80s/early 90s with flip-up lights that was in "crazy" condition [01:40].
The Skyline 2000 GT: Seeing an old-school Skyline 2000 GT rolling on small, period-correct wheels proved that bigger isn’t always better [38:51].

Final Thoughts

Sunday at Daikoku feels like a family event [07:14]. It’s where collectors come to breathe and share stories. Whether it’s a Bayside Blue R34 [09:14] or a custom-wrapped MRS Spider that looks like a silhouette race car [37:14], the dedication is palpable.

I left with a camera full of references and a deeper respect for the "Professor-like" gentlemen who daily-drive these legends [45:04].
